Security: Lessons Learned from a Hacked Gmail Account
- Use Gmail’s mass sign-out tool: I knew about Gmail’s multiple session info and remote sign-out tool because, well, I write for Lifehacker. My wife didn’t, however, and it would’ve come in handy whenever she thought she might’ve been signed in elsewhere. And had I thought to screenshot the session info during the break-in, I might’ve had some help in figuring out where the compromise came from.

Exclusive Lifehacker Download: FoxGLove Standalone Google Apps Portal
- Firefox user Alex customized his own Firefox Portable installation to tightly integrate with Google Apps. He calls his creation „FoxGLove,“ and uses it as his own Google-powered productivity portal instead of Microsoft Outlook. Along with his pick of add-ons that enhance and integrate Google Apps in Firefox, Alex tricked out this portable Firefox version with a Chrome-like theme, custom homepages (that auto-load in tabs), web site favicons, and even slapped the FoxGLove name and icon onto the whole shebang. Best part? You can download and try it out right now without disturbing your current Firefox setup.

Facebook Connect: Eine Win-Win-Situation
In 2005 it was clear to me that an ideal news aggregation site would need to combine automation with direct, hands on editing.

… WeiterlesenHumans have always edited Techmeme of course, just implicitly. For instance, when a blogger links to a story, the headline might move higher on Techmeme. What’s different now is that an additional human editor will carry out changes explicitly to directly improve the mix of headlines on Techmeme. Though the implicit edits conveyed via algorithm outnumber the explicit edits perhaps by 1000 to 1 or more, the impact of the human editor is nonetheless pronounced.
