# Europas neue GPS-Alternative Galileo ist akurater und offen für alle

Das erste Galileo-Smartphone des spanischen Unternehmens BQ sei bereits auf dem Markt, andere Hersteller dürften bald nachziehen, hofft die Kommission. Ab 2018 werde auch jedes in Europa verkaufte neue Fahrzeugmodell mit Galileo ausgerüstet sein; dadurch werde auch[der Autonotruf eCall](http://www.heise.de/meldung/EU-Parlament-beschliesst-Auto-Notruf-eCall-2626174.html) ermöglicht. Besonders in städtischen Gebieten, wo die Satellitensignale häufig von hohen Gebäuden gestört werden, seien durch Galileo Vorteile zu erwarten.

Ein zwar technisch besseres, aber redundantes System zu GPS wäre noch vor ein paar Wochen eine zumindest fragwürdige Investition gewesen.

Jetzt, mit der künftigen US-Regierung, und der wachsenden Bedeutung etwa autonomer Automobile in naher Zukunft, kommt Galileo keine Sekunde zu früh:

Europa macht sich so zum richtigen Zeitpunkt ein kleines bisschen unabhängiger von den USA.
