# Hangouts: Google gibt mit neuem Messagingdienst nun auch XMPP auf

Nach [RSS](http://neunetz.wpengine.com/tag/googlereader/) und [CalDAV](http://inessential.com/2013/03/15/what%5Felse%5Fgoogle%5Fis%5Fshutting%5Fdown) ist XMPP das nächste offene Protokoll, dem Google den Rücken zukehrt.

Ein Wettbewerbsvorteil von Google war lange Zeit, dass sie nicht nur in der (Macht-)Position waren, in ihren Produkten offene Protokolle zu unterstützen, also Andockstellen leicht verfügbar zu machen, sondern diese Möglichkeit auch nutzten.

Heute ist Google nicht anders als Apple, Facebook und co. (Samsung, Spotify, Twitter, Foursquare, Groupon, die Liste lässt sich ewig fortsetzen), denen sie hinterherhecheln. Googles Strategie dafür ist das extem geniale "Mehr von dem Gleichen; aber von uns, wir sind groß."
