Google hat offensichtlich angefangen, Google Music intern zu testen wie CNET berichtet:

Google has begun testing Google Music internally, a sign that the much anticipated service is nearly ready to launch.
Google employees have begun a process commonly referred to in Silicon Valley as dog fooding, when employees try out a new service or product , music industry sources told CNET.

Das Feld der Onlinemusikdienste dürfte 2011 sehr interessant werden:

CNET and others have reported that Google is negotiating for the right to store users‘ existing music libraries on the company’s servers, the sources said. According to a report in Bloomberg this week, the labels are in similar discussions with Apple about cloud music, the term often used to describe computing done on third-party servers rather than on a local PC.

Google Music, um das seit letztem Jahr immer wieder Gerüchte umgehen, ist noch nicht gestartet, aber anscheinend ist die Technik bereits funktionstüchtig implementiert.

Einige Android-Nutzer haben es geschafft, Google Music abzurufen, bzw. die Möglichkeit, Musikdateien zu synchronisieren und zu streamen:

Users over on the XDA-Developers forum have managed to get Google Music sync working on their rooted Android phones, even though the service has not officially launched. This was accomplished by removing the stock music app that came with their Android phone and installing a different version instead – the one found in Honeycomb (Android 3.0), the tablet-optimized implementation of the Android mobile operating system.
After installation, the sync process began and, according to the first user to notice this phenomenon, the phone was now syncing music, too.

Warum wollen Labels für Streaming von bezahlten Musiksammlungen nochmal bezahlt werden?

Gestern hatte ich hier über das geplante Google Music berichtet, und auch darauf hingewiesen, dass Google Music laut Billboard die Möglichkeit bieten soll, dass die User ihre Festplatten nach MP3s scannen lassen können und diese dann über den Google-Music-Account von allen mit dem Internet verbundenen Geräten abrufen können. Die Nutzer können dann also ihre Musik, die sie irgendwann einmal gekauft (oder via P2P heruntergeladen) haben, per Streaming abrufen.

Anbieter für Hosting und Streaming von gekaufter Musik nennt man in den USA „Music Locker“. (Gibt es eine vernünftige Übersetzung dafür? Mir ist noch keine untergekommen.)

Interessant ist, dass es dabei um nichts anderes geht, als den Zugriff auf die eigene Musiksammlung über das Web, den man lokal so oder so hat.… Weiterlesen

Google Music: Ambitioniert, disruptiv, und unwahrscheinlich?

Billboard berichtet über das geplante Google Music, den Einstieg von Google in das Musikbusiness, und hat einige interessante, aber bisher unbestätigte, Details veröffentlicht:

The search giant has proposed charging consumers about $25 a year to store songs in the locker, from which they could access their music on an Internet-connected device by either streaming or downloading. Google’s download store would operate like a conventional digital retailer, giving the consumers the ability to purchase individual tracks and digital albums.

Google plane laut Billboard außerdem, jedem Nutzer die Möglichkeit einzuräumen, einen Track komplett anhören zu können, bevor man ihn kauft.

Auch ein Social-Network-Feature soll Teil von Google Music sein. Die User sollen außerdem Playlists mit ihren Freunden teilen können, wie man es von Spotify bereits kennt.… Weiterlesen
