  • TIME names "The Protester" 2011 Person of the Year - Boing Boing  ""Protester" is an interesting choice of language. "Activist," or "Occupier" if the focus is on America, would have also been apt."

  • Louis CK's 'Experiment' Brings In 110k Sales, $550k Gross, Over $200k Net... In Four Days  "And while he says that the $200k (which, again, I think miscalculates the actual bottom line) is "less" than he would have been paid if he'd simply sold the show, there are a few other mitigating factors, beyond what he lists above. He focuses on how it would be worse for the fans. But I'll take it a step further and suggest that going that path would have been worse for Louis as well. First, this isn't done yet. While there's definitely a huge spike in sales at the beginning, and it will only go down from there, I wouldn't be surprised to see a decently long tail of support here. Second, and more importantly, this whole experiment -- including the transparency here -- likely has both widened his fan base considerably (even though it was already quite large) and, more importantly, deepened their loyalty to him."
  • The Price For ReadWriteWeb Was Around $5 Million  "Why is an ad network buying up media properties? SAY Media is not alone in this strategy. Look at how Glam Media started out as an ad network and then aded on owned-and-operated properties or, for that matter, AOL (which bought TechCrunch and the Huffington Post, but also runs a huge ad network). "

  • The Rise Of The “Creative” Class  "The top word people in the U.S. use to describe themselves on LinkedIn? “Creative.” That word did not even make the top ten list last year, when “Extensive Experience” topped the list."
  • How Transferwise turns currency exchange upside down  Faszinierend: "Instead of wiring the money into the recipient’s foreign account, it handles the back end by simply having accounts in the countries and currencies it needs to. That means when a customer wants to send some money, they pay it to Transferwise at one end, and the company can then pay it out to the recipient at the other end from a different account, directly in the target currency. In order to minimize its own capital needs, the company tries to match payments on one side to payments going the other way — but if there are no matches it simply it simply hands over money from its own coffers."
