  • Ahead of its expansion, Netflix finds partners, foes in Europe  "Netflix is in the process of striking a partnership with Deutsche Telekom, according to a report by Germany’s Manager Magazin. Telekom apparently wants to carry Netflix on its IPTV platform, which is dubbed Entertain. This would mirror similar partnerships the streaming service has with other pay TV operators — with one notable difference: This could be the first time Netflix is available on a pay TV set-top box of a major operator that’s not based on TiVo’s DVR hardware."

  • BBC News - Microsoft to release Android-powered Nokia X2 handset  "Microsoft's video chat app Skype, its Outlook email service and its OneDrive internet storage apps all come pre-loaded. The firm is also promoting some of its other apps - including Bing Search, the Yammer business-focused social network and the OneNote idea jotting service - as optional free downloads for the device."
Euro Umsatz
  • Some suggestions for Google's Social Product Strategy` — Chris Saad
  • Facebook Launches Google+, and the Week in Daily Updates  "More broadly, back in the day when businesses were the primary market for technology, a fast-follower strategy made a ton of sense: channel and distribution matter more than anything in those markets, and market leaders could leverage their assets in those areas to successfully bring rip-offs to market. Things are much different in the consumer market, though, especially if you are dealing with network effects. I cannot think of a single example of an incumbent company successfully displacing a startup’s social network; Facebook was onto something when they decided to simply open up the wallet for companies like Instagram and WhatsApp."

  • iWatch Thoughts  "Taking a more hopeful view, let’s recall the history of the iPad. It was a late entrant in the tablet field but it coalesced and redefined the genre. Perhaps the the iWatch will establish itself as The Smartwatch Done Right. But even if it succeeds in this category-defining role, it won’t have the power and flexibility or the huge number of apps of a true trouser pocket computer. As a result, the iWatch will be part of the supporting cast, not a first order product like the iPhone. There’s nothing wrong with that — it might help make high-margin iPhones even more attractive — but it won’t sell in numbers, dollar volume, or profit comparable to the iPhone or iPad. The iWatch, if and when announced, might be The Next Big Thing – for the few weeks of a gargantuan media feast. But it won’t redefine an industry the way PCs, smartphones and tablets did."
  • The Feature Google Killed The + Command For – Direct Connect – Is Now Dead  Schönes Beispiel dafür, wie Google nicht mehr weiß, was es macht: "The + symbol was a command used by search engines even before Google existed. But Google wanted that + symbol so bad for its Google+ Direct Connect service that it dropped support just before Direct Connect went live. As an alternative, it told searchers who previously used the + symbol to put quotes around single words as a workaround. Will the + symbol be allowed to return, now that Direct Connect is dead? Google had no comment on that."
