Yet, because a rather recent industry was built up on the idea that „copying“ was rare and was only done on professional built content, it’s now trying to shut down and stomp out new means of communication just because, as a part of its nature, it allows for the copying of professional content as well. Yet, in doing so, they’re slowing down basic communications, and with it, the core of economic activity and growth.
[..] Purposely limiting a market is a dangerous short-term practice that has significantly negative long-term consequences.

Code: Flickr Developer Blog » Lessons Learned while Building an iPhone Site
Here are a few of the lessons we learned (sometimes painfully) while developing this site.
- 1. Don’t Use a JavaScript Library or CSS Framework
- 2. Load Page Fragments Instead of Full Pages
- 3. Don’t Build for Just One Device
- 4. Optimize Everything
- 5. Tell the User What is Happening
How to Change the World Using Social Media | Copyblogger
social media is all about users deciding what’s worthwhile instead of relying on mass media or advertising to dictate to us. But the real issue is that users often decide to give a message a chance based on initial indicators that have nothing to do with the actual quality of the content.
What we’re talking about is called social proof.

BoingBoing exclusive: sneak peek at South Park’s sweet, yet-unreleased iPhone app
The app functioned beautifully, with the ability to stream clips, grab wallpapers for your device, read news, and browse the complete episode index. Also: choose character likenesses as „contact images“ for your iPhone — assign a face to the phone book entry of your choice. An incoming call from best friend displays Kyle or Cartman; your weed dealer medical marijuana dispensary is Towelie, and so on.
BuzzMachine » Blog Archive » It is our fault
The internet does not just present a few glittery toys. It presents the circumstances to change our relationship with the public, to work collaboratively in networks, to find new efficiencies thanks to the link, to rethink how we cover and present news. No, the essence of the problem is that we thought the internet represented just a new gadget and not a fundamental change in society, the economy, and thus journalism.
Somebody thought of a device that could be used to log its location at predefined intervals or by pressing a button. The original idea was to combine this information with photographs to match up your snaps with their location. Nice. But dull. A genius took this idea and thought “I’ll tie that to my cat. That’d be badass”. Mr Lee’s CatTrack was born.

Mr Lee’s CatTrack findet man hier.

Weiterlesen
Lizenzierungen und Urheberrecht gone crazy
Der Olympics Act of 2006 für mehr Geld Recht und Ordnung:
The Olympics are notorious for getting local governments to grant them extra special intellectual property rights that go so far beyond what’s reasonable (and local existing laws) that it’s become something of a pure mockery of the concept of intellectual property. [..]
Yes, if you were to say „reach for the gold in 2012“ as part of any advertisement and you weren’t an approved Olympic sponsor, you’d be breaking the law in the UK.
The Ugandan government has been sued by the 83 year old composer of its national anthem “Oh Uganda, Land of Beauty.” Prof. George Wilberforce Kakoma seeks compensation for the continuous infringement of his work on national festivities, for which he received no royalties.
Da fehlen einem die Worte.
WordPress-Macher kaufen Kommentar-System Intense Debate
Automattic, das Unternehmen hinter WordPress kauft also Intense Debate. Interessante Sache:
Intense Debate CTO Jon Fox explains that the platform will still work just fine on other blog systems (Movable Type, Tumblr, etc.) but that there will now be tighter integration between it and some of Automattic’s other owned systems, like anti-spam tool Akismet and Gravatar (avatars for blog comments).
Weiterlesen
